About Me

My name is David Chase and live in Falls Church, VA (Metro DC) and work for the Jane Goodall Institute. I will attend Saint Mary’s College of Maryland starting this Fall.

Who I am

I would describe myself as a laidback want-to-be-full-time-traveller geek. I am very torn between spending my time seeing the world and sitting behind a computer deigining logos and websites. That being said, I am also extremely passionate about making the world a better place. You might ask what issue I am most passionate about, global warming, animal welfare, poverty but the truth is my passion is really for helping the people who are extremely passionate about one issue, take their passion to a level that will accomplish even more then they could on their own.

What I do

For the past 12 months I have been working for the Jane Goodall Institute’s Roots & Shoots program as their Youth Leadership Fellow, overseeing the Roots & Shoots Youth Leadership Initiative, youth campaigns and doing a lot of outreach.

Starting in late August, I will be a full time college student (thank god! no more rent! just student loans….) at Saint Mary’s College of Maryland. I am not sure what I want to study but I am looking at communications, marketing or some combination of both. My ideal degree (at the moment) would be in digital marketing.

Hobbies

In the past year, working for the Jane Goodall Institute, I have picked up a few new hobbies that I no interest in before I started at JGI.

One of my many recently acquired hobbies is photography. I shoot with a Canon Rebel XTi with a Canon 28-135 f3.5-5.6 IS USM, which I have found to be a great set up for a fraction of the cost most DSLR kits (not to say the quality even compares to the professional level cameras and lens but still). Check out my photos page.

Another hobby of mine is graphic design. You might notice the Birks at the top of the page. I think the logo really captures who I am. I also design a logo for the Global Youth Council for Wildlife Conservation. You can see the logo here.

Similar, although completely different, to graphic design is my third recently acquired hobby, web design. A year ago, I did not even know what CSS was let alone how to write it. And now I am building websites, like the Global Youth Councilf for Wildlife Conservation’s Website.

Digital Marketing

All of that led to my interest in what I call digital marketing, this includes websites, social networking sites (like Facebook, Myspace etc…), blogs, forums… basically anything online). My interest in that, led to Social Nonprofits, my latest venture. Right now, I have just started to build my website but basically, I am starting a site to help nonprofits build a strong web presence for little to no money. You can check out my awesome under construction page at www.socialnonprofits.com but I anticipate to have the site up and running in late September.

If your interested in hiring me to build your online presences, build a you a website, design you a logo or optimize your site for search engines, shoot me an email. A full web presence (website, social networking profiles and a web stratgey) starting at $200. See what I have already designed.
